To the Administrators at CVSC
Pittsburgh, PA

Dear Friends of Swimming,

Thanks for taking the time to meet with me next week. This brief letter of introduction and resume can help us be more effective in our time together.

Background:

A few years ago, CVSC was looking for a new head coach. I participated in the process, and sadly, the interview didn't go well for me in terms of making a fit with the parents involved at that time. My hopes were not matched well with the team's leadership at that time.

Since then, I think the team churned with four different coaches. The revolving door of the next seasons slowed with recent coaching stability. That is great news.

It is great that some coaching stability has been with the club in recent times. That is wonderful. Let's hope it can continue and that the team can flourish again far into the future. Our swimming landscape and the profession of coaching in the area needs a viable and vibrant program at Chartiers Valley.

Different Interview Purpose:

My approach with the plans I'm working on is to make outreach efforts to some key programs, such as CVSC. Our talk isn't going to be about me taking over the team in any way. I am not interested in being the CVSC Head Coach. My visit is not a threat to any local coach and his or her position. The outreach comes in a number of opportunities, but my being a head coach is NOT one of them.

Items to Share:

  • sports lecture series, S6
  • fundraising opportunities
  • literacy and library interactions
  • workforce job programs for young workers in aquatics
  • county politics and imporved access to facilities
  • outdoor sports movements
  • Swim Club Awareness:

I've coached swimming and worked in leadership roles in many diverse aquatic programs including: Harvard University, Baylor University, City of Waco, Texas, the Peoria Park District, New Trier High School (America's best public school, Winetka, IL), Ohio University, Bradley University and a number of places around western Pennsylvania (Greater Pittsburgh Swim Club, Three Rivers Aquatics, Cannon-Mac Schools, Plum High School).

    Blending Coaching with Wider Experiences:

My administration and academic background extends with publishing efforts. I owned and published swim magazines, helped to launched the American Relay section in Swimming World. developed more aquatics content than any other the world over in past years. The 400-page water polo text book I published in 1992 with a four-time Olympic Coach author is considered the best book ever in that sport.

My history and the continued desires to flourish new programs allows the examination of these issues with confidence.

Thanks for your attention to these matters.

    Sincerely yours,

    Mark Rauterkus
