Thrive Themes - could be big -- or just another bit in the puzzle
Another day!
UPDATE:
This message is posted on the Thrive site now - Important Update: Today, May 20, our team is completing a migration of our subscription management and licensing software. You may notice a few periods of instability as new servers roll out and are scaled up in the process. Please be patient as we work through our well-practiced execution plan and double-check everything.
(Note: If you are experiencing "license expired" issues on your site during this time, it is temporary. Once cache clears, you should be able to refresh the license in Thrive Product Manager and/or logout and connect your account again).

My email to Thrive Themes support
I am dealing with a big security set of issues with attacks and maleware on my set of servers. Now I see this:
My site says my license EXPIRED. It could be nothing, but perhaps not?
My license is good until Sept 2, 2026.
This is the advice from ChatGPT
This smells like a license-server / account-validation problem, not necessarily malware. Do not start deleting Thrive files because of this message.
Action steps:
- Wait for Thrive support before reconnecting/reinstalling everywhere.
You already sent the right email. Good. - Do not update Thrive products on every site right now.
If the license server thinks the membership is expired, updates may fail halfway or leave sites in a weird state. - Do not assume every site is compromised because Thrive says “expired.”
Thrive’s own pricing page says sites should keep working after expiration, but updates/support/templates require an active license. So the “expired” notice mainly blocks updates and licensing functions, not basic page rendering. - Capture evidence now.
Save screenshots of:- Thrive Product Manager showing “expired”
- Thrive account page showing license good until Sept. 2, 2026
- Any site-specific error message
- The Facebook thread showing another user reporting the same issue
- Check one site only.
On one non-critical site, go to:
WordPress Dashboard → Thrive Product Manager
Look for:- account email shown
- license status
- any “reconnect,” “refresh,” or “activate” button
Do not click bulk update yet.
- Reply to Thrive with this added line:
Also, another Thrive user is reporting the same “Membership expired / license must be renewed” behavior in the Thrive Themes community, so this may be a broader license-validation issue rather than only my account or my server cleanup.
- Keep Wordfence scans separate from Thrive licensing.
Malware cleanup continues, but this specific Thrive message should be treated as a license/account problem until Thrive confirms otherwise. - Do not restore old Thrive folders from backups.
Some of your prior infected files were inside Thrive directories. Only reinstall Thrive from your official Thrive account/download source after the license issue is clarified.
I did make a Loom video of what I'm facing
I'm so sorry for the frustration you're experiencing today. I want to first thank you for your patience and then also explain a bit of why this is happening.
Today our team has been working on a migration of our subscription platform to a more stable solution - a move meant to improve your experience here, not frustrate it.
Unfortunately, we are seeing that users (like you) are experiencing "license expired" or invalid license messages when you shouldn't be. Or, some are seeing a missing payment, which then leads to an expired message.
If you are seeing this error, please rest assured: your account is in good standing and your data and payments are safe and correct on our end. While I know that doesn't solve the issue at hand, it's important for you to know that your data and payments are complete. And, there is not now nor has there been any security issue or involvement today.
So Why Is This Happening?
Our developers are still investigating the root cause as we dig deeper. Initially, it appeared to be caused by heavy caching between server updates causing incorrect statuses to be "stuck." And, while that has definitely played a part for SOME customers, we understand better now that is it not the whole of the issue for most and that clearing cache alone will not resolve the issue.
So What Now?
Our developers are going to keep at it until we're certain everyone can access their subscriptions as they should. As soon as I have new information to share, I will update you again.
Moving Forward
We’ve seen some great feedback and questions about why we didn't send out a preemptive patch or a temporary license bypass. While our goal was a completely invisible transition (which is why we didn't want to flood your inboxes with warnings or preemptive panic for an event we expected to have zero downtime), we hear you loud and clear.
We take your business operations seriously, and we will absolutely take this feedback to heart for how we communicate technical updates in the future.
Thank you again for your patience, your loyalty, and for holding us to a high standard.
We will follow up again just as soon as we have more information to share.
Warmly,
Angie Meeker

System Update (May 20, 7:40PM): Today we have been migrating our licensing software to a more stable solution. We are aware of a bug causing some active subscriptions to incorrectly show as Expired which then blocks access to subscriptions. Our developers are actively working on a solution. Due to high volume, support replies are taking longer than usual. Thank you for your patience! Standard Hours: M-F, 9am - 5pm ET, but we are working around the clock on this for you.
